Woodgate aiming for England World Cup

I like Woodgate and I'd like to see him in the England squad for Germany 2006 if he can prove his fitness.

He's spoken to someone recently and the BBC have picked up on it. He said "I've got hopes of getting there but I'm concentrating on playing for Real Madrid.

"There are a lot of good centre-halves so it's going to be tough."

If he can do the business for Real Madrid and maybe score a few more goals it would be excellent news for England.

I'd slap little Michael Owen if he was here now

I don't like Michael Owen that much. Whenever I see him play that changes because there is no doubt he's a good player but whenever he opens his little gobshite mouth it winds me up.

Today he has spoken off the Sven affair and said "We want to concentrate on the World Cup" referring to the mounting speculation of who the new manager will be.

First things first, he better get himself fit and scoring as he shouldn't consider himself an automatic choice. Second if he wants to concentrate on the World Cup then concentrate on the World Cup - don't tell us you want to or that the speculation is going to effect you for Gods sake.

Given the opportunities he's had I could have probably scored as many and be earning a million a month. Shut up you little twit and let your football do the talking.

Rant over, sorry. I'm just fed up of so many players turning to talking the talk when they start fading as players and not doing the business - Beckham is another!

Possible strike in Germany during World Cup 2006

Jut my luck. I spend weeks agonising over to get the train or take a camper van and once I've picked the camper van and then cancelled it and purchased a monthly train ticket I then find out that there is a possible train strike planned for the middle of the World Cup.

I've just spoken to the camper van people and they say I can still have it and there are no problems as far as they are concenred so I'm going to think about it and get back to you.

If those Germans don't offer to refund me all of my ticket price though I'll get my money back tenfold when over there.

Sven to leave England job after Germany 2006

Randy England manager Sven Goran Eriksson is set to leave his job after the World Cup and no doubt go and manage a Premiership team.

He'll go manage a Premiership team because there is so much money in the game as long as you join a club that is willing to throw money at you then you've got no problem.

this will only be good for England if the FA appoint an Englishman as the next manager.

Sven to sue News of the World

Just what England need in a World Cup year - the manager suing the largest newspaper in the land.

Sven isn't a happy chap at the momemnt after he was duped into believing he was talking to a wealthy businessman who was willing to invest in Aston Villa Football Club and make Sven the manager.

If this is going to in anyway effect the team it has to stop now. If Sven thinks he can deal with this then kick on but I wouldn't expect much support from the News of the World from now on.

Camper van cancelled - going by train

I've decided to cancel the camper that I was going to take to Germany. It's cost me a few quid but I'm more than saving on the total cost by buying a 4 week ticket on the German rail system.

For a little under £250 I've purchased a ticket that I can use whenever I want for my entire time in Germany - now all I've got to worry about isgettingg there in the first place. I'm probably going to get on a ferry and hitch.

This does mean I'm not going to be able to do some of the things I wanted to dobecausee I've got nowhere to go sleep every night but I figure been able to have a beer and not worry in a World Cup year is the most important factor.

Is Svennis the man to lead England?

I for one think he is but for only one reason - I think a change now would be bad and the ego of David Beckham could probably cause more damage than good.

I don't know what to believe about what I read in the paper today but one thing I do know is this; the News of the World shouldn't be publishing something like this so close to the World Cup. Sure, publish it but it should have been published after the World Cup - nobody is going to fire the Swede now as it as good as ruins the chances of any success.

It is quite amazing though that Michael Owen only signed for Newcastle because of the money and that Beckham wants out of Real Madrid. Apparently Sven will also take the managers job at Aston Villa if somebody paid him the same cash as Jose of Chelsea gets.

I don't know what the Aston Villa fans would think about it but I'd have him as manager if only for the players he could attract.

Beckham to shine at World Cup 2006

Svennis is at it again - bigging up David Beckham on the LMA website. Talking of Beckham and the World Cup later this year Svennis said "Beckham will be England's captain in Germany and I will not even discuss anyone else. He's calm in the dressing room and when he talks, people listen."

There is a very good reason for that but we won't go into it now.

Beckham has never had a good World Cup tournament for England in my opinion. Beckham lost it for England during his first under Glenn Hoddle and the last World Cup playing Beckham meant we were playing with 10 men.

He gets into the team on his celebrity status and because of this the team is never 100% - I'd far rahter see Shaun Wright Phillips given a chance down the right than Beckham or anyone else to be honest. If he costs us another World Cup surely that will be his Knighthood gone for good?

Germany World Cup stadiums not safe

According to Stiftung Warentest, a German company that tests products and other stuff not all of the stadiums to be used in Germany alter this year are completely safe.

Apparently a 'mass panic' in a full stadium could have a 'devestating effect' - there are also some issues with fire protection.

A news conference has been called for January 19th when we'll learn more of the concerns but this is Germany and the Germans are sticklers for getting everything right so this really doesn't concern me in the slightest.

England confirm friendlies against Hungary, Uruguay and Jamaica ahead of World Cup finals

England have confirmed friendlies against Uruguay and Jamaica before the World Cup in Germany later this year.

A match against Hungary was already planned for May 30 and England have now added two more fixtures against Uruguay on March 1st at Anfield and the big one at the new Wembley against Jamaica on June 3rd.

I'll be in Germany on June 3rd so won't be able to go but I'll be watching it on TV somewhere or on the internet.

Can you smell it? It's getting closer. World Cup fever is taking hold. Come on England!

Owen to miss 2006 World Cup?

Michael Owen has broken a bone in his foot and wont be fit until April, a full two months before the World Cup finals are due to start in Germany.

I've not always been the biggest fan of Michael Owen but after seeing him a couple of times this season he does create another dimension for Newcastle and should go to Germany - however I wouldn't start him.

I'm convinced that Peter Crouch and Wayne Rooney are the strike pair that England should use and have Owen as backup or maybe even Defoe. Players should be picked on current form and performances and definitely not reputation.
